Harvey Milk's Birthday 2006

Heartfelt thanks also to the many sisters who came to the dedication of three beautiful art plaques and a new garden in honour of Harvey Milk at the Castro Street MUNI station. I hoped we could simply lend our presence and honour Harvey's memory. But, towards the end of the event, a very quick thinking Bevan Dufty, noticing the gaggle of nuns in habit, said "and I can't think of a more fitting way to close our event than to have a special blessing from the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence." THAT was news to us!

But sisterpower prevailed and we pulled something together fast! Sister Mary Timothy and myself opened the blessing, Sister Bella wove a beautiful cala lilly into the fence above the plaques and all our sisters did a fantastic job glittering the space and helping the crowd sing "Happy Birthday to Harvey" and hoot and holler to raise energy! We had many people come up after and thank us for our blessing- just goes to show you the power of our sisterhood! I'm sure Harvey was delighted!
